Re-archiving a lot of my old work to get ready for festival season. This process starts with Boston Calling from 2014-2015. Around this time I had been shooting shows for a few years and was excited to check out a new festival in my Home state. Boston Calling in those early years was a 2.5 day festival with 2 stages and no overlapping sets. These Hyper curated festivals had a really nice blend of nostalgic acts like Death Cab, Beck, My Morning Jacket, Brand New and Nas. I think the crazier part of looking back at these old shots was seeing acts that at the time were relatively unknowns or rising stars but now are Titans in this industry. The Likes of Lorde, Childish Gambino, Halsey and Twenty One Pilots all got their start at Boston Calling.

I always tell newer music photographers how important it is to shoot at least 1 music festival every so often. It allows you to try new things, shoot bands that are not on your radar and most importantly you get extensive “reps” in shooting. When you shoot a show at normal club. At most you get to shoot 3 bands for 3 songs that breaks down to about 30 mins of time shooting in a pit. But when you shoot a festival you can shoot 3-5 times as many bands. This practice and constant repetition will make you a better live music photographer.
