Saint Cloud was arguably my most played record during the pandemic, it just had this warmth that made all the crazy shit happening in the world seem a-little less heavy. Songs like Lilacs, Fire and her Lucinda Williams cover of Fruits of My Labor were on repeat while I would ride my bike around the empty streets of Philadelphia during the Spring of 2020.

I have been fortunate enough to catch Katie Crutchfield on tour post pandemic.

First at the Newport Folk last July and then again last fall with her partner and fellow musician Kevin Morby. Both occasions were superb, her voice with with Kevin’s is something truly special and seeing her at Newport was just a perfect summer afternoon set.

But neither held up to what I experienced on Sunday. Philadelphia Crowds are notoriously rowdy and loud for a singer songwriting folk singer like Waxahatchee to perform in. But even before Katie hit the stage I knew this crowd was different. Silence, straight up quiet to the point where you could hear a pin drop. It was so nice to hear Madi Diaz open to almost full room of attentive listeners, she is going to fit in Nicely at Newport BTW.
